Introduction
The need for systems tracing plants and animal products has increased in importance, since the globalisation of food production through trade has made the direct control of food production by consumers impossible.
The activities of TRACENET will focus on the identification of these current needs in food traceability and on the creation of a network for technology and know-how transfer between field operators (e.g. breeders) and scientific researchers.
Activities and expected results:
TRACENET activities focus on the identification of current needs in
food traceability and on the creation of a network for technology and
know-how transfer between field operators (e.g. breeders) and scientific
researchers. In this year-long subproject, questionnaires will be sent
to query the major agr o -food participants with regards to traceability
and the identification of expertise curricula suitable for the needs
of the partner Regions. Dissemination activities will be carried out
to inform and involve all potential collaborators and beneficiaries.
The subproject partners come from three different European regions
( Lombardy , Catalonia and South-West Bohemia ) and the final result
of TRACENET will be the identification of scientific research thematic
to be implemented in the agr o -food sector. Cooperation between SMEs
and researchers in the regions involved will be stimulated, thus giving
the opportunity to meet and to share communal experiences.
Who and how can utilize the results of the TRACENET subproject?
The beneficiaries of the activities carried out within the TRACENET
subproject are agr o -food and livestock SMEs, centres of research,
young researchers, breeders, consumers and traders in the corresponding
partner regions. The subproject stimulates the creation of synergies,
among the participants, involved through scientific and non-scientific
knowledge exchange.
What competitive advantage does the TRACENET subproject offer?
Local SMEs and scientific researchers will take advantage of the exchange
of know-how and experience. A permanent network will be created to
meet the food traceability sector's needs. Databases containing information
on all SMEs, breeders, breeders associations, and researchers involved
in the survey will be made available as a tool for stimulating cooperation
among the different participants in the “food chain”.
Obtained results
Through a questionnaire information has been gathered and collected in a database. This database is online and publicly available, containing data of 204 agri-food SME´s. It can be accessed through the webpage of TRACENET, http://155.253.6.245/tracenet/index.php
Furthermore laboratories that are involved in traceability of agri-products and funding sources to which submit future scientific research proposals and other activities have been identified in order to create a stable network. The dissemination of this project went through several promotional materials such as folders and brochures. |
