Introduction

The fact that energy consumption is growing, conventional energy sources are limited and energy efficiency in buildings is still a real challenge, made PTT-RenEnergy of an important relevancy.

The aim of PTT-RenEnergy was to supply the necessary instruments for matching and optimizing different technologies developed in different regions, in order to promote the shift of electrical and thermal energy generation to renewable energy sources and take advantage of market opportunities.

Activities and expected results:

Alternative energy sources and their applications will be in focus: e.g. wind energy, solar energy, H2, geothermal energy, hydroelectricity or cost-effective use of energy in buildings. Simultaneously, activities related with common issues that are the same for all technologies and are important to launch technology from the investigation up to the market implementation and dissemination will proceed. It is necessary to find synergies between these activities and technologies. The motivation of this subproject is to give the necessary instruments for matching and optimising different technologies developed in different regions, in order to promote the shift of electrical and thermal energy generation to renewable energy sources and take advantage of market opportunities.

Who and how can utilize the results of the PTT-RenEnergy subproject?

The, subproject is focused on the optimal utilisation of alternative energies. Target area is the definition of instruments which enable the frequent, simple and standard use of alternative solutions in real daily life. Concrete instruments definitions will open the standard relations to “alternative solutions”, thus causing them to be accepted as real and valuable methods and solutions. Profit could be seen in wider acceptation of these “alternative” solutions – not only on the side of “green-oriented” end users, but especially on the side of architects, civil engineers, and SMEs involved in building industries.

What competitive advantage does the PTT-RenEnergy subproject offer?

The SMEs cooperating on the subproject will have very well elaborated descriptions of the “alternative-energy technologies”. They will be able to offer them as standard solutions and thusly, to significantly cut the price for their clients.

Obtained results

An analysis has been made of the best available technologies for the generation of electrical and thermal energy in all MATEO regions and the identification of their common barriers. A study was added to identify the possibilities that renewable sources offer to improve the energy efficiency, particularly in the specific area of low energy consumption buildings. A database of experts and educational material in the field of renewable energies has been posted on the webpage.
The results obtained have been the starting point of further collaboration between the three regions.
