Introduction

The rapid developments in constituent technological fields in mechatronics, such as nano and flex foil electronics, lead to growing complexity and dynamics at the integrative level. These developments bring along the need for close cooperation between industrial companies and RTD’s.

The goal of Match-Tech is to provide SME´s the opportunity to apply their knowledge to new products and processes, engaging them in joint ventures and creating opportunities in general for collaboration and joint project proposals at European level.

Activities and expected results:

MATCH-TECH uses Regional foresights to produce a map of regional R&D assets and analyses the technological needs of relevant SMEs identified in the regions in close detail, taking into account global trends, market demands, regional strategies and public support organisations.

MATCH-TECH aims to increase the capacity of partners involved in mechatronics to innovate and perform effective, collaborative R&D, by harnessing the technological synergies identified through matching complementary partners.

Excellent SMEs and RTDs are matched based on their potential to engage in technology transfer through the application and exploitation of R&D knowledge.

MATCH-TECH goals:

  • SME's applying knowledge formed in centres of research to new products and processes.
  • Complementary SMEs and RTDs engaging in joint ventures (possibly spin-off or start-up initiatives).
  • The creation of opportunities for collaboration and joint project proposals at a European level.

Who and how can utilize the results of the MATCH-TECH subproject?

Excellent companies from Catalonia and North Brabant , these will be studied, selected and matched in order to generate relationships and real interregional projects. On detecting synergies and matching skills, individual professional workshops will be carried out with the companies and RTDs to determine specific opportunities for collaboration between regions. A final workshop with selected complementary partners will bring them together around a common idea and interest. Learning from and complementing similar projects at a national and European level.

What competitive advantage does the MATCH-TECH subproject offer?

MATCH-TECH offers a widespread platform for matching ideas between entrepreneurial and the R&D sphere. Learning from and complementing similar projects at national and European level. The innovation specialists from UPC-CTM and BOM work closely with SMEs, understanding their needs and values and will actively work to generate real opportunities for collaboration between companies and/or RTDs.

Obtained results

In a sector study the market and its developments in both regions have been analysed. Thereby it identified important companies, technological research centres and intermediate organisations and opportunities for future collaboration were sought.

A database of mechatronics companies and RTDs in both regions has been realised and already additional contacts aimed at joined technology and business development have been made.
A guide to interregional collaboration has been developed and a number of 10 interregional initiatives and contacts exploring the opportunity for future collaboration in various areas have been created.
At www.mechatronicsmatch.eu these materials can be found.
Through the final workshop at the end the results have been disseminated and future collaborations between participating companies and RTDs were discussed.
