Organisations from the participating regions are invited to propose and participate in technology and/or sector-oriented subprojects aimed at generating concrete opportunities for new knowledge-intensive industrial activity through interregional cooperation.

1) Who can participate?

Participants can be public bodies (e.g. regional and local authorities, administrative units from the four regions) or public-equivalent bodies (e.g. regional / local development agencies, academia, technology transfer organisations, incubators). Other entities are not eligible to receive funding.

Public equivalent in the understanding of INTERREG IIIC means any legal body governed by public or private law that is:

established for the specific purpose of meeting needs in the general interest, - not having industrial or commercial character, and
- having legal personality, and
- either financed, for the most part, by state, or regional or local authorities, or other bodies governed by public law
- or subject to management supervision by those bodies
- or having an administrative managerial or supervisory board, more than half of whose members are appointed by State, regional or local authorities or by other bodies governed by public law.

Note: This definition does not exclude bodies partly having an industrial and commercial character that deal with public tasks. In some cases, such bodies may be asked to submit a clarification issued by regional or local authorities.

2) Why participate?

MATEO uses interregional cooperation as a tool to amplify the technologies, methodologies, infrastructure and markets available to regional industry and academia that are essential for the creation of new opportunities for industrial activities. The subprojects allow participants to increase the impact of their RTD and innovation activities through collaboration with entities from partner regions.

3) What subprojects will be funded?

Subprojects must support MATEO in achieving its core objective: increasing regional innovation potential through interregional cooperation. MATEO will not support fundamental/applied research, but rather projects that use RTD results to stimulate knowledge-intensive industry. MATEO has defined two lines of activities through which subprojects can achieve this: A) stimulation of technostarters, exchange of best practices and improved utilisation of technology and B) technology transfer and matching of technologies for existing SMEs.

4) Subproject selection and funding

Subproject applicants should use the MATEO application form to present their subproject proposal during the call for proposals. The closing of the call will be followed by the selection of the proposals by the MATEO Steering Committee on the basis of a predefined evaluation matrix. For those subprojects selected, participants from Catalonia and Noord-Brabant will be funded 50%, those from Lombardy 100% and those from South-West Bohemia 75%.

5) Further information

If you would like additional information on participation in the MATEO project, please contact your regional MATEO contact point or contact us.
